What Apex believes

Your starting point matters. Your goals matter.

Training should reflect both. Apex is built for people who want more than a generic workout—whether that means learning movement at age six, preparing for college sport, protecting independence or rebuilding after a difficult chapter.

The brand is broad because the coaching is specific.

The coaching team

One standard. Individual coaching.

Matt leads the Apex coaching standard, and every coach works from the same assessment-led methodology. We use the assessment to match each client with the coach, format and level of support that best fit their needs.

The goal is not for every client to train with the same person. The goal is for every client to receive the Apex standard.

FOUNDER / COACH

Matt Tennie

Matt founded Apex Training in 2013. He earned a master’s degree in Coaching Education and Sport Pedagogy from Ohio University and holds multiple certifications and specialist credentials in personal training, speed and agility, youth fitness specialist, team speed and recurring-injury prevention.

Matt has coached clients across a wide range of ages, goals and backgrounds. His areas of expertise include sports performance, working with adults, sprint mechanics, training around injuries and physical limitations, and helping adults and athletes rebuild strength and performance after surgery and rehabilitation.

COACH

Emily Cohen

Emily’s relationship with Apex began when she was 16 and training with Matt as a competitive athlete. Her experience as an Apex athlete inspired her to pursue coaching as a career.

She began studying the Apex methodology under Matt and has since become an important part of the team, applying that approach while coaching clients through individualized training.

The coaching standard

Decisions before exercises.

Personalization is not just changing a few movements. It is the process of learning what matters, choosing priorities, matching the right coach and adjusting based on response.

01. Understand

Goals, training background, schedule, relevant history and what success means to the individual.

02. Assess and match

Establish the baseline, choose the first priorities and identify the coach and format that fit.

03. Coach and reassess

Teach, track, adapt and periodically reassess so the plan remains connected to the person.

Who trains here

Different people. One serious standard.

Apex has the range to coach many populations without asking every client to fit the same culture or program.
